A 2006 survey of alumni generated more than 8,000 written responses. The results? Nearly 3,000 alumni-founded companies, 300,000 new jobs, and $82 billion in annual revenue were documented. Retired President and CEO of Starbucks Orin Smith (BA 1965) got his start at the UW's Foster School of Business and now offers real-world experience and a fresh perspective for students, faculty and the Foster School via the advisory board. Smith is one of nearly 43,000 alumni, many of whom have led new ventures and made lasting contributions to their industries domestically and abroad. |
Business Connections
- There are 42,896 living School of Business alumni. Sixty-nine percent of them live in Washington state, 55% live in four Seattle and Puget Sound counties (King, Snohomish, Kitsap and Pierce).
- Seattle's dynamic economy is driven by industry-leading companies like Microsoft, Starbucks, Boeing, Nordstrom, Costco and Paccar. Each year more than 200 executives speak in classrooms, mentor and interact with students.
- The School's premier annual Business Leadership Banquet honors distinguished alumni and business leaders for their community contributions. Proceeds from the event help fund Foster School of Business diversity student scholarships.
- The Business School Advisory Board, comprised of more than 60 business leaders, advises the dean and his leadership team on the strategic direction of the Foster School and the relevance and quality of curricula and programs. Eleven additional advisory boards also consult with the School's specialty programs.
- Michael G. Foster School of Business is accredited by AACSB International and one of only three business schools in the country accredited by European-based EQUIS.
- The School's 90-year history of business education and innovation continues to this day.
