Components of a Marketing Plan

Profile

  • Years of experience and industries

  • Top functional strengths (try to limit to three)

  • Who you are as a leader, individual contributor

  • Cultures you thrive in, languages you speak

The profile should imply functions and industries in which you could make an immediate contribution.

Options - an option is a function within an industry segment

Three to five options -

  • Product Manager, beverages

  • Product Manager, software

  • Product Development, software

  • Marketing Director, interactive audio media

Ten target companies for each option:

Product Manager, Beverages: Starbucks, Tully's, Wine Association, Columbia Winery, St Michelle Winery, Talking Rain, etc.

List of key contacts to validate options

  • Alumni of MBA, EMBA, TMMBA and active students in all MBA programs

  • Corporate executive who spoke on campus

  • Friend of the family

  • Consultant who consults to these companies
