Learn How Venture Capital Works
This course provides an overview of the venture capital world and the investment process. The goal is for participants to gain a working knowledge of business plans, term sheets, valuation strategies, and investment trends. Through hands-on modules, online research, guest speakers, and investment presentations from Seattle entrepreneurs, the class will prepare students to navigate their future venture needs as entrepreneurs. View syllabus.

Venture Capital Investment Competition
The class prepares students for the Venture Capital Investment Competition, which turns the tables on a traditional business plan competition. Instead of students pitching their own ideas to investors, VCIC students are the investors and outside entrepreneurs pitch to them. Each team acts as a venture capital firm, selecting a company to invest in and negotiating a realistic term sheet. Teams are judged by a panel of VCs and investors from the Pacific Northwest.

Class participants are eligible to participate in the UW Intramural VCIC on Saturday, January 10, 2009. One team is selected to represent the University of Washington at the Regional VCIC which feeds into the highly competitive International VCIC competition. In the past five years the UW has been a powerhouse at the International VCIC, having won First Place twice and Second Place once!

VC Fellowship
ENTRE 542 is required of Second Year MBAs wishing to apply for a VC Fellowship at a local venture firm. These are highly competitive internships and only students with demonstrated understanding of the mechanics of venture capital are eligible.
