There are three primary methods of accessing
your University of Washington e-mail account: PINE, WebPINE,
or via a desktop e-mail client such as PC-PINE, Outlook, or
Outlook Express.
WebPINE
The simplest of these methods is via WebPINE. You can use WebPINE
with any Internet connection and any web browser.
It's an especially popular way of accessing your e-mail from a
friend or colleague's
computer or from a public computer, since it
requires no setup or configuration. To access WebPINE, simply
go to the following
web address: http://webpine.washington.edu/
PINE
Another simple way of accessing your mail is via
PINE. You can use PINE from any computer with
a Secure Shell (SSH) client. Facutly
and staff access PINE via homer.u.washington.edu;
students access PINE via dante.u.washington.edu.
An SSH client is available for
download from C&C by clicking here.
Desktop E-mail Clients
The most complicated, yet most powerful and popular way of accessing
your e-mail is via a desktop e-mail client. Outlook
(within the Business School) is an example of this method of access.
These,
in all cases, require installation and configuration
of the software on your computer. Step-by-step instructions for
configuring several
popular desktop e-mail clients are available
from C&C.
