Transfer Students
Transfer student status designates an admitted applicant who has completed the equivalent of the first year MBA core courses at an accredited institution.
Admission for transfer applicants is as selective, and often more stringent, than that for new MBA students. The Foster School of Business cautions students not to seek admission to a program elsewhere in the hope of gaining acceptance to the Foster MBA Program as a transfer student.
The admissions committee takes into consideration the course content and academic rigor of the courses in the other program, as well as the student's individual performance in the program when making an admissions decision. The Foster MBA Program does not review transcripts of work completed in other programs until an application has been submitted and is under review. UW staff will not discuss any specific courses that may be required to complete the Foster MBA program until an admissions decision has been made. Prior to a final admissions decision, any discussion regarding courses at other institutions is non-binding speculation on what may (or may not) be comparable coursework.

Admitted Transfer Students
If you are admitted as a transfer student to the Foster MBA Program:
- Credits from your other MBA program are not transferred to the University of Washington and will not appear on your UW transcript. However, these credits are a key qualifying factor in granting admission to a student seeking to transfer from another MBA program.
- You will be required to complete a minimum of 36 credits. The Associate Dean will determine on a case-by-case basis whether a candidate is required to complete particular prerequisite courses necessary for some elective courses. This will be determined upon admission to the Foster MBA Program.
- You may be required to take more than 36 credits depending on the coursework you are able to transfer, and may also be required to complete other non-credit program requirements.
- If you have not completed equivalent courses, you must take the UW macroeconomics and ethics courses in Year Two of the Foster MBA Program as part of a minimum of 36 credits.
