Formal Concurrent Degrees
Formal concurrent degrees are official programs in which students pursue two degrees simultaneously. To participate in these joint degrees requires applying to and admission in both degree programs. Application, advising and registration are handled separately by each of the departments involved. At the time of graduation, students are awarded two separate diplomas.
The MBA elective requirements for these students are somewhat altered based on the degree the student is taking. Since students are limited to four classes from outside the Business School to count toward their MBA, it is not possible to take additional electives outside the MBA curriculum beyond those from the other degree program.
The MBA Program has the following formal concurrent degree programs:
Students in these joint programs are required to complete the
entire MBA Core curriculum. The number of MBA elective course
requirements will vary based on the second degree being pursued.
MBA/JD
The MBA/JD is usually a 12-quarter program, which may be completed
in four academic years. Students generally complete the First Year Law School requirements during year one, and the MBA Core Curriculum during year two. The third and fourth years are used for completing the second and third year of the Law School requirements and eight 4-credit MBA elective courses (32 credits).
MBA/MHA
The MBA/MHA program generally takes nine quarters to complete. MBA Core Curriculum courses are completed during the first year. The second year, students begin taking the required MHA courses. Completion of the MHA courses, and five 4-credit MBA elective course requirements (20 credits), are done in the third year.
Students in this program can take MBA elective courses in the summer between their first and second year and complete an internship between their second and third year.
MBA/MAIS
The MBA/MAIS program is designed to be completed in three academic years. During the first year, students complete the MBA Core requirements. Years 2 and 3 are used for completion of MAIS required courses and eight
4-credit MBA elective courses (32 credits).
Informal Concurrent Degrees
Students may also choose to pursue an MBA and another Master's degree outside of the official concurrent degree programs. These include the following:
MBA/MPAcc
The MBA/MPAcc program typically takes three years to complete. MBA Core Curriculum is completed during the first year. The second year is dedicated to MPAcc Curriculum. During the third year, the student completes the MPAcc requirements as well as six 4-credit MBA elective courses (24 credits).
MBA/Other Masters Degree
The length of study will depend on the other degree that the student chooses to pursue. The first year will be concentrated on the MBA Core Curriculum. The following years will be used to complete the requirements of the other degree and eight 4-credit MBA elective courses (32 credits).
