General Program Guidelines
Generally, students with an undergraduate degree in accounting
would not need to complete any course prerequisites prior
to starting the program. Applicants from non-UW sources will
be screened both for qualifications and for undergraduate
background. The UW undergraduate accounting program teaches
breadth and a user orientation and the MPAcc Program provides
depth and a preparer orientation. The MPAcc curriculum may
not be appropriate for someone with a strictly preparer-oriented
undergraduate degree. Students without the requisite background
may be required to take additional courses beyond the MPAcc
degree course requirements.
Prerequisite Coursework
Applicants with a non-accounting undergraduate business or
MBA degree must take the summer Accounting 505 certificate
class (requires separate program fees).
Applicants without an undergraduate degree in business or
accounting must complete:
- a college level calculus course prior to starting the
program. (Do not wait for an admission decision to take
this class since it usually requires one or two prerequisite
classes to complete),
- the first year full time MBA core classes (this also requires
admission to the MBA Program), and
- the intensive summer quarter 10 week Accounting 505 course
(requires separate program fees).
