The Master of Professional Accounting (MPAcc) in Taxation prepares graduate students for high-level careers in taxation,
where economic decision-making depends on an in-depth knowledge
of the tax code and its ramifications. The program offers
broad training in the technical aspects and complexities of
both corporate and personal taxation. Students develop strategic thinking skills and learn to use tax law to optimize tax planning and compliance. They also gain a thorough understanding of the underlying theory of taxation, as well as tax policy considerations. MPAcc students also work to develop their leadership and communications skills and the attitudes, ethics, and sense of personal and social responsibility that accompany their profession.
The 40 to 45 participants who enter this specialized taxation
program every year typically have a baccalaureate degree in
accounting or hold an MBA in accounting. The majority of the
courses required are offered early morning and around lunch time to accommodate working professionals.
Full time students with an accounting background will be
able to complete the 48 credits of the taxation track in three
academic quarters that run September through June. Students
who have earned an undergraduate in fields other than accounting
generally take two years to complete this program. The length
of time it will take a part-time student to complete this
degree will depend upon how many courses are taken each quarter.
