Business & Community

The Retail Management Program, supported by its Corporate Council, prepares students to enter the retail industry in areas such as buying, electronic-based retailing, accounting and finance, distribution systems and human resource management. Businesses provide unique opportunities for career exploration and development, internships; many retailers provide professional in-class speakers and industry tours.

  • Internships lead to permanent employees. Summer interns often stay on as employees during their final quarters at the university. Some become Campus Ambassadors who spread the word about your company. RMP students complete a full-time paid internship generally between their junior and senior year.
  • Guest speakers and Classroom Teachers. Provides an opportunity to meet, enlighten and influence prospective employees and allows students to learn about today’s circumstances in which retail managers operate. In addition, Company representatives hold lunchtime information sessions in the UW Business School to acquaint students with their companies. (contact retail@u.washington.edu)
  • Corporate Council Partners. The Retail Management Program is funded through donations from participating retail companies. These companies function to assist the Program in accomplishing its goals. Through this partnership, the students have a chance to intern with companies who are changing the face of the retail industry. (contact retail@u.washington.edu)
  • Host store tours. On-site experiences stimulate students’ interest in a company and offer them a greater understanding of a retailer’s corporate culture and business practices.
